The Snack Zone is a food review show in Jet Lag: The Game. It was first conceptualized by Ben and Adam while filming Season 5, and it has appeared on Jet Lag: The Game since then.
The original Snack Zone was created by Ben and Adam in Season 5, where Adam describes it as "a show within a show where [they] review New Zealand's very best and sometimes very worst snacks".[1] Each episode is characterized by a very short (1-2 sentence) food review, paired with a full opening and closing sequence.
This segment was only shown briefly because Ben and Adam's microphones were not working. It was revealed on The Layover Podcast for episode 6, that Ben had a brownie, which he said was not good at all, while Adam had an ice cream cone, which was ok.
"Special edition." This was a task Ben had to complete, called "Get Drunk on local wine at the Wairau River viewpoint." Ben: "I don't like wine that much."
With Sam & Ben. It's unknown what Ben ordered from Starbucks but proceeds to question why he keeps ordering this same drink. He even says, "I don't like Starbucks."
With Sam & Ben. Sam attempted to rename the show "Choo Choo Chew: Derailed." Ben responded, "Yeah, I don't like that you have completely co-opted the snack empire that we built. This is snack zone now," followed by Snack Zone opening sequence and music. Ben's review: "That's a perfectly serviceable pizza." Sam's review: "Anuh nobubadea!"
Adam said to Ben that they had to get them because Ben wanted to eat glowworms in the Waipu Caves (New Zealand, Season 5). After they bought them, Adam said, "Ben, you can finally find out what a glowworm tastes like!" It then shows a flashback to Season 5, Episode 3. They get on their train, and Adam introduces them into the Snack Zone. Ben's review was: "It tastes like I'm eating a real animal."
Ben & Adam were at Vula's Off Shore Cafe in Seattle to do the challenge to Visit a Diner, Drive-in Or Dive they had to eat at one of the restaurants featured on Guy Fieri's show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives they ate a Chinese Pancake a pancake with minced ham and egg inside.
Outtake scene in between episodes 6 and 7. Ben and Adam were in their overnight train to Connellsville, Pennsylvania but at the time, they were at Tremont, Illinois, in the second car. Adam: "It's actually quite good." Ben: "Yeah, I don't know what it is, really."
Sam attempts to name it "Choo Choo Chew: Derailed", even saying it was "definitely not Snack Zone". However, the Snack Zone opening sequence and music plays. Sam's review is "Delicious. I kinda hope they get here soon. I want some lunch. I also wanna win though."
An outtake scene in between Episodes 3 and 4. Adam is trying to think of something funny to say about fondue but eventually says "it's just really good."
On the Qantas flight from Melbourne to Alice Springs. Ben: "That tastes like actual food. And actual food tastes so good." Adam: "Right now, it really does."
This is a food item from and consumed in McDonald's Australia, but not explicitly stated to be purchased from the McDonald's. Ben: "That is bread with chocolate in it. For sure."
With Sam & Adam in Sendai. Sam attempts to begin the segment with, "Welcome to the episode of "Choo Choo Chew: Derailed", only for Adam to ignore Sam and say, "Welcome to the Snack Zone", followed by Snack Zone opening sequence and music. Adam: "I mean, that is luxurious." In the outtakes episode, Sam said, "I mean, that is a juicy strawberry."
After Sam & Adam tasted their Mochi, the Snack Zone segment continues with Ben by the local river in Yamagata. Ben: "Ooh. Ooh. Oh, that's delightful. Oh!" In the outtakes episode, Ben additionally said, "Oh it's very heavy. That's the first thing you notice about it. It has great heft."
Ben & Adam on a shinkansen to Sendai. Adam purchased an "angry" chicken ekiben, while Ben purchased a "nice" chicken ekiben. After trying each other's ekiben, Adam concludes that Ben's ekiben was better, with Ben surmising, "That's why you stick with the nice chicken."
Ben & Adam in the vicinity of Shinjuku Station. After they were cursed with "Curse of the Lemon Phylactery", they also bought vanilla ice cream. Ben: "This is one of the greatest inventions in the history of mankind."
An outtake scene from Episode 2 with Sam & Ben on a shinkansen to Morioka. Sam attempts to begin the segment with a little Choo Choo Chew episode. Ben: "What the hell is that." Sam: "It's the original one. The OG." Ben: "Look, it doesn't really matter. You can call it whatever you want. But, when I say the word, our editors are going to play the Snack Zone intro. Because Sam, we entered the Snack Zone." The snack zone intro begins to play, but is interrupted by Sam saying, "No, I disagree." Ben: "Okay, well, editors? Choose whoever you like more and play that intro." The snack zone intro and music is played. Ben's review: "Yeah, it tastes like calories."
